Bandalero Ranch Veterinary eagerly anticipates serving you and your horses. Our aim is to offer compassionate, cost-effective equine veterinary care to maintain your horse’s overall well-being and address both short-term and chronic conditions.

What We Offer

#

Physical Exams

Throughout our standard examination, we meticulously review your horse's medical history and conduct thorough assessments of their heart, lungs, stomach sounds, eyes, and mouth. We provide recommendations for optimal care and diet while ensuring your horse is up to date on vaccinations.

Diagnostic Services

In-Clinic Bloodwork

We provide in-clinic blood work services for horses who are medically unwell or for those owners who wish to understand their horse's baseline blood parameters. In-clinic blood work enables prompt diagnosis and treatment for equine patients.
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC): This screen can help detect disorders of the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. A CBC may detect early signs of anemia, inflammation, infection, and certain types of neoplasia.
  • Chemistry Panel: The chemistry panel looks at various protein and enzyme levels as well as basic electrolytes in the blood. It is a broad panel that looks at several organ values including kidney, liver and pancreas. Many disease processes can cause increases in one or more of these values early on.
  • SAA Test: Serum amyloid A (SAA) is an early and sensitive blood biomarker for tissue injury and inflammation and has been indicated in many inflammatory diseases.
  • We also offer a large range of send-out laboratory testing.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound lets us measure the size of follicles on an ovary, evaluate their structure, and identify isolated or focal lesions within the uterus. Tendons and ligaments are frequent areas of injury in the horse and these structures can be better evaluated using ultrasound. This form of imaging can help determine the extent of damage and allow us to give a better prognosis as well as monitor healing.

Radiology

Digital radiographs diagnose problems quickly, leading to faster, more effective treatment. Digital radiography allows our doctor to consult with specialists on certain cases and allows us to send copies of your animal's radiographs with you for your records.

Endoscope

Endoscopy involves using a small camera on the end of a tube, called an endoscope, to take images of the body as it is passed along the desired surface (i.e. esophagus, airway). Upper and lower airway endoscopy involves examining the airways (trachea) and pharyngeal regions, including the guttural pouches. Gastroscopy involves passing the endoscope down the esophagus to the stomach.
#

Dental Services

Regular dental care is crucial for maintaining your horse's health. Periodic examinations and routine maintenance, including floating, are particularly important. Horses can experience issues such as sharp enamel points on the cheek teeth, retained caps, wolf teeth, hooks, lost or broken teeth, abnormal bites, misalignment, or excessively long teeth.
#

Injury Treatment

Common emergencies involving the musculoskeletal system encompass fractures, luxations, lacerations, puncture wounds, synovial infections, and exertional rhabdomyolysis, also known as "tying up." It is imperative to evaluate wounds and identify involved structures, often aided by radiographs. Management entails the judicious use of medications and bandages. Accurate diagnosis and prompt emergency treatment are vital for a successful outcome. Additionally, we provide Shockwave and ANICELL BIOTECH STEMCELLS as treatment options. Patients necessitating extensive care or surgery will be referred accordingly.
#

Breeding Services

Dr. Alicia Lindholm, a Board Certified Theriogenologist specializing in Equine Reproduction and Infertility, prioritizes delivering mares and stallions the specialized care and attention they deserve for bringing the next generation of athletes into the world.

Preventative Care

Deworming and Treatment for Internal Parasites

Regrettably, all horses are vulnerable to worms and other internal parasites. Regular manure testing and/or deworming are essential components of your horse’s health. We will assess your current deworming regimen and may recommend new medications as necessary.

Prevention and Treatment for Infectious & Non-infectious Diseases

We endeavor to prevent serious problems proactively by administering vaccines for tetanus, equine encephalomyelitis, West Nile Virus, and other preventable diseases. However, if your horse contracts a disease like strangles or EHV (Equine Herpes Virus), we provide state-of-the-art treatment to minimize damage and restore health.

Treatment for Congenital Conditions

Certain horses may present congenital conditions, spanning from hypothyroidism to stationary night blindness. We conduct thorough diagnoses of your horse's issues and provide our best treatment recommendations accordingly.
