Services

Bandalero Ranch Veterinary looks forward to serving you and your horses. We strive to provide compassionate, cost-effective equine veterinary care to help ensure your horse’s general wellness as well as to treat short-term and chronic conditions.

What We Offer

#

Physical Exams

During our standard exam, we’ll review your horse’s medical history, check his or her heart, lungs, stomach sounds, eyes and mouth. We’ll make recommendations for optimal care and diet, and ensure your horse is current on vaccinations.

Diagnostic Services

In-Clinic Bloodwork

We offer in-clinic blood work for patients who are medically ill or just want to know your horse’s normal bloodwork. In-clinic bloodwork allows immediate diagnosis and treatment for equines.
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC): This screen can help detect disorders of the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. A CBC may detect early signs of anemia, inflammation, infection, and certain types of neoplasia.
  • Chemistry Panel: The chemistry panel looks at various protein and enzyme levels as well as basic electrolytes in the blood. It is a broad panel that looks at several organ values including kidney, liver and pancreas. Many disease processes can cause increases in one or more of these values early on.
  • SAA Test: Serum amyloid A (SAA) is an early and sensitive blood biomarker for tissue injury and inflammation and has been indicated in many inflammatory diseases.
  • We also offer a large range of send-out laboratory testing.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound lets us measure the size of follicles on an ovary, evaluate their structure, and identify isolated or focal lesions within the uterus. Tendons and ligaments are frequent areas of injury in the horse and these structures can be better evaluated using ultrasound. This form of imaging can help determine the extent of damage and allow us to give a better prognosis as well as monitor healing.

Radiology

Digital radiographs diagnose problems quickly; leading to faster, more effective treatment. Digital radiography allows our doctor to consult with specialists on certain cases and allows us to send copies of your animal's radiographs with you for your records.

Endoscope

Endoscopy involves using a small camera on the end of a tube, called an endoscope, to take images of the body as it is passed along the desired surface (i.e. esophagus, airway). Upper and lower airway endoscopy involves examining the airways (trachea) and pharyngeal regions, including the guttural pouches. Gastroscopy involves passing the endoscope down the esophagus to the stomach.
#

Dental Services

Routine dental care is essential to your horse's in health. Periodic examinations and regular maintenance, such as floating, are especially necessary. Horses may suffer from sharp enamel points on the cheek teeth, retained caps, wolf teeth, hooks, lost or broken teeth, abnormal bites, misalignment, or abnormally long teeth.
#

Injury Treatment

Common emergencies involving the musculoskeletal system include fractures, luxation’s, lacerations, puncture wounds, synovial infections, and exertional rhabdomyolysis or “tying up”. Wound evaluation and identification of structures involved is necessary, with the aid of radiographs. Management involves appropriate use of medications and bandages. An accurate diagnosis and provision of appropriate emergency treatment are essential to set the stage for a successful outcome. In addition, we offer Shockwave and ANICELL BIOTECH STEMCELLS as treatment modalities. Patients requiring extensive care and/or surgery will be referred.
#

Breeding Services

Dr. Alicia Lindholm, a Board Certified Theriogenologist (Equine Reproduction and Infertility Specialist) focuses on giving mares and stallions the specialized care and attention they deserve for bringing the next generation of athletes into the world.

Preventative Care

Deworming and Treatment for Internal Parasites

Unfortunately, all horses are susceptible to worms and other internal parasites. Regular manure testing and/or deworming is a crucial part of your horse’s health. We’ll review your current regimen of deworming medications and possibly prescribe new ones.

Prevention and Treatment for Infectious & Non-infectious Diseases

We strive to avoid serious problems before they happen, administering vaccines for tetanus, equine encephalomyelitis, West Nile Virus, and other preventable diseases. Nonetheless, if your horse contracts a disease, such as strangles or EHV (Equine Herpes Virus), we deliver state-of-the-art treatment to minimize damage and restore health.

Treatment for Congenital Conditions

Some horses may have a congenital condition, ranging from hypothyroidism to stationary night blindness. We’ll diagnose your horse’s problems and make our best treatment recommendations.
